[00:00:41] Speaker B: What's up, guys? Welcome back to the BAMA Balance Podcast. Real stories about college students, mental health. And as we sit here, we're kind of in a little bit of reflection because this is our final episode of. Of season two, episode 20 or. Yeah, season two, episode 27.
And, man, it's a crazy thing.
[00:01:00] Speaker C: Yeah, that is crazy.
We've done a lot of them.
[00:01:03] Speaker D: It's a lot. That's a lot. It's a lot of talking, a lot of being with each other.
[00:01:08] Speaker C: First half of the year. I have no clue what we talked about.
[00:01:12] Speaker B: I could not tell you at all.
[00:01:15] Speaker D: I'm even remembering when we started this, even before we started the season. We got together a couple times during the summer to just kind of put our heads together about what it was going to be, what it was going to be like. And.
And it's always. It's always fun looking back on that, because you know, where we are now. I don't know that I would have ever imagined it. We've had some great times and some great conversations with folks.
[00:01:38] Speaker C: It's been awesome. And I've loved. Honestly, I feel like this year as a whole, we've taken kind of a charge on having guests on, and I think that's very important just for us to be able to hear from other people at school. And we've had some great guests that have came on and shared a little bit about themselves and some.
Some.
Some good memories, for sure. Some funny conversations.
[00:02:03] Speaker D: Yeah. So, yeah, I don't. I don't think that there's ever been a time, though, when we haven't led with something sports related.
And so, yeah. Know, because the fall was all football and then all football and then basketball, transition to basketball and then the whole
[00:02:20] Speaker B: thing being the masters last week or two week episodes ago.
[00:02:24] Speaker D: I know y' all talked about baseball some, right. With Michael.
[00:02:27] Speaker B: A little bit.
[00:02:27] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:02:27] Speaker D: A little bit. Okay. Okay.
[00:02:29] Speaker C: Let's see.
[00:02:30] Speaker D: It's crazy, though, but if you think
[00:02:32] Speaker C: about it, nine and zero. Let me. Let me recalculate this.
[00:02:36] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:02:37] Speaker C: Basketball two Baseball three, Softball three.
[00:02:43] Speaker B: Football one.
[00:02:44] Speaker C: Football one.
[00:02:46] Speaker D: It's nuts.
[00:02:46] Speaker C: Gymnastics. Auburn hasn't beat Auburn. Did not beat me in a single.
[00:02:51] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:02:52] Speaker C: Big money making sport.
[00:02:54] Speaker B: What a senior year stat.
[00:02:55] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:02:56] Speaker B: That's awesome.
[00:02:56] Speaker D: It is, isn't it?
That really is.
[00:02:59] Speaker C: Didn't get a natty, but that's all right, at least.
[00:03:02] Speaker D: No, that's good. What's it feeling? So. Yeah, that's right. Brooks, this is your last time as a senior, but you'll be back in grad school.
[00:03:11] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. I'm excited for next year. I'll be back. But it is getting real right here. I mean, when this releases, I'll have like three days till I graduate, so.
[00:03:22] Speaker D: That is nuts.
[00:03:23] Speaker C: Yeah, it is crazy. It's getting a little stressful, but then at the same time, like, we're all so relaxed. Like, it's funny just being around our friends. Like we have done nothing the past two weeks.
[00:03:34] Speaker B: As you should, though, I mean.
[00:03:36] Speaker C: Yeah, it's kind of like I feel
[00:03:37] Speaker B: like you should, you know, use the time to. It's not like you're not going to graduate.
[00:03:41] Speaker C: I mean.
[00:03:41] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:03:41] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:03:42] Speaker C: Dead week's gonna be awesome, right? Because I'm not.
[00:03:44] Speaker D: Oh, you can really celebrate.
[00:03:46] Speaker C: Yeah, I'm not gonna do anything. Yeah, it'll be fun.
[00:03:49] Speaker D: Gosh, man, it's. That'll be a fun time for you, I think. Just.
[00:03:53] Speaker C: Yeah, I think graduation. That whole weekend will be fun.
We've got a lot planned and it'll be a good time. So we got to make the most of it, right?
[00:04:03] Speaker B: Absolutely.
[00:04:03] Speaker D: Oh, my gosh. It's gonna be. Yeah. It'll be memorable, for sure.
For sure. There's a lot of transitions to be made and a lot of memories to be had.
[00:04:14] Speaker C: No doubt. Yeah, no doubt. I'm excited for it.
[00:04:17] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, we're gonna take a quick break and we'll be right back. But this is the final episode of season two for the BAMA B.
[00:04:40] Speaker C: Wvuafm Tuscaloosa.
[00:04:43] Speaker A: This show is not a substitute for professional counseling and no relationship is created between the show hosts or guests and any listener. [00:05:24] Speaker C: What's up, guys? Welcome back to segment one of Our last episode of season two, we're just joking around. I have no clue what I'm about to say. Edward's like, well, good thing I don't have to worry about it. So I was like, all right, I'm just gonna pawn it off to you. But no, I. Looking back on it, there were some great.
We were pretty creative, too, I feel like, you know. Yeah, like. Like you said earlier, the questions from the hat, that was a lot of fun.
I love that the music one was.
Oh, hilarious. I mean, we literally sat here and talked about music.
[00:05:58] Speaker D: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:06:01] Speaker C: There have been some good memories there. And I'm gonna have to tell myself, especially going into next year, that I've got to go back and listen to some of these and actually, you know, like, take in what we talked about and maybe do a deeper dive on some of the topics.
And we've definitely got to start figuring out something to talk about next year, because we're. We're run. Running low over here.
[00:06:25] Speaker D: Oh, you know, I. I have faith in our process. We'll always find something to talk about.
[00:06:29] Speaker C: Yeah, no doubt.
[00:06:31] Speaker D: It's been so good.
[00:06:31] Speaker C: When we get back, we'll have football season to talk about.
[00:06:34] Speaker D: That's right.
[00:06:35] Speaker C: It feels like it's been a long time since we talked about football.
[00:06:38] Speaker D: I know. Well, you know what? If we had one more episode, we could talk about the draft.
[00:06:42] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, that is true, because that's coming up.
[00:06:45] Speaker D: What, in two weeks, maybe? Is that next week? Is it next week?
[00:06:48] Speaker C: Like, nine days, maybe?
[00:06:49] Speaker D: Wow.
[00:06:50] Speaker C: I think it is next week.
[00:06:50] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:06:53] Speaker C: Yeah, next week.
[00:06:55] Speaker D: Yeah. Gosh, there's. Yeah. No, I trust our process that we'll always find something.
[00:07:00] Speaker C: I'm not worried about it.
[00:07:01] Speaker D: So let's talk about how. So let me. I'll ask you guys this. I just. This is a question I just thought about.
What.
What has it been like, not only, you know, being co host this year, but how has being a part of the podcast impacted your own mental health?
[00:07:26] Speaker B: I mean, I think in the. In the same way of. Of, you know, we say we're. You know, we want to encourage people to have conversations, be open about it. I think it just gave me a way to talk about things that I might be going through.
[00:07:39] Speaker D: Mm.
[00:07:40] Speaker B: Whether directly or indirectly. But, you know, this. This kind of approaching mental health with a very open mind in a very, like, vulnerable spot.
[00:07:49] Speaker D: Right.
[00:07:50] Speaker B: And understanding that, I think that helped me, like. Like, speaking on my experiences and trying to help others in a lot of ways helped me. So that's kind of how I Viewed it, I feel more comfortable talking about it and realized a lot of things that I maybe didn't before.
[00:08:06] Speaker C: Sure, I agree.
First off, it was an honor to. To be a member or a co host.
[00:08:13] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:08:14] Speaker C: This year, I mean, every Thursday. What. What day?
[00:08:18] Speaker B: Monday.
[00:08:19] Speaker C: Last Monday. Semester. Yeah. Semester.
[00:08:21] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:08:22] Speaker C: That's every.
[00:08:22] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:08:23] Speaker C: Because it was a great start to the week. But seriously, this is something I look forward to every week.
As far as my mental health goes, I think it made me more aware, almost kind of like gave me awareness of my surroundings. Not necessarily with me, but more other people and looking out for other people in that type of way.
I can also say, though, that, like you said, talking about stuff, you know, indirectly or directly, a lot of times when we came on here and talked about stuff, I mean, it's real stuff that we're. We're struggling with too.
[00:08:54] Speaker D: Right.
[00:08:55] Speaker C: So I felt like it was great to be able to hear other people's opinions on some certain topics that may have been affecting us.
But no, I mean, it's definitely stuff that I'm. I'm going to keep with me for a long time, so.
[00:09:08] Speaker D: No, that's good to hear. I know that, you know, there's. There have been so many times when, you know, we've all been able to relate or share with, with each other or some of the guests that we've had on. On our podcast about, you know, experiences or, you know, knowledge that they're wanting to bring to us, bring to the table.
And, you know, as we were talking earlier, it would be, you know, I would feel remiss if I also didn't sort of share kind of what's currently going on for me. And, and many of you may not know this, but my. I lost my brother a couple of weeks ago. The Friday before Easter, he passed away. And so it's been a bit. It's been a challenge just trying to manage all that, dealing with the grief and the sadness around his death. Ruben's death is his name.
And in thinking about that, you know, what I was brought back to was a sense of how much I appreciated this time with the two of you and that sense of belonging that I have with two of you on this podcast. And again, that the importance to have a sense of belonging and finding a community and finding a group of friends and to help sort of cope with issues of mental health. And it's been a real pleasure and an honor for me to be able to sit here with the two of you and, and share that.
That experience. And, And I appreciate you, the both of you, a ton. Thank you very much.
[00:10:55] Speaker B: Well, we definitely appreciate. We appreciate you and everything you've allowed us to do through this, you know, bringing us on. And obviously our, you know, our hearts go out to you and your family for everything that's happened. But.
[00:11:09] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, it just feels like.
[00:11:12] Speaker C: Better.
[00:11:13] Speaker D: Yeah. I didn't. Didn't want to not necessarily be non tr. What's not. It's not non. Transparent. I wanted to be truthful. Right. Consistent, honest, and that kind of thing. So I appreciate it. I think I've really valued, you know, this podcast is something that I've grown to value over, you know, over the time that it began and certainly this year.
And I don't know that I could have imagined, you know, how it was going to be this year, but I think trusting our process has been the most important thing.
[00:11:45] Speaker C: Yeah, I definitely agree. And the funny thing is our process is like kind of always like, just like whatever.
I mean, I mean, we do have a process and when we come in here, we, I mean, we have one goal in mind and by the end, we get it done. Yeah, but there's a point, it seems like every now and then that we get and we're just like, I. We have no clue.
[00:12:09] Speaker B: Well, there's always, you know, point A and point B never change. The road changes every time.
[00:12:14] Speaker C: It's a different road taking a different route.
[00:12:16] Speaker D: Yeah, that's such a good.
[00:12:17] Speaker B: Sometimes taking a different car, you know, like, it's just. You just. It's never the same. At least in. Or not to. Sorry. Never the same in terms of like the, The.
The journey. But yeah, we'll get where we're going.
[00:12:34] Speaker C: No doubt.
[00:12:35] Speaker D: I think it's so good. I think sometimes, you know, some of the episodes that I really enjoyed have been, you know, ones where we have gone off the rails a bit. It's just allowed us to not necessarily be constrained with a topic, but just sort of find ourselves in the topic. I love that.
[00:12:53] Speaker C: I feel like there's always good conversation out of that.
Like, you've said it at some point, Dr. Perez, but it's very important that we come on here and talk about certain things that we may want to discuss. But then again, some of our best conversation is one, when we're off the microphones and we keep going about a certain topic or two, when we just kind of let it ride and see where it takes us.
And it feels like we always, in those episodes, it feels like we get most into what we're talking about.
[00:13:22] Speaker D: I feel like I think so.
[00:13:24] Speaker C: So it's very interesting how that works.
[00:13:26] Speaker D: Wouldn't it be sort of a neat thing, I'm thinking, for next season. A neat thing. We were talking about this earlier, but maybe a neat twist if, you know, where we didn't take a week. We just. We just continued recording even through our breaks.
[00:13:40] Speaker B: I mean, I think.
[00:13:40] Speaker D: Crazy.
[00:13:41] Speaker B: That's.
That's how. That's how most.
[00:13:44] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:13:44] Speaker B: Podcasts are. I mean, you know, they just. They kind of go. They. There are some that will still have an intro and then like a. Like a. Okay, I'm like a cold open, but just like a brief intro, and then the rest of it's one thing, which I think that's another good way to do it too. But, yeah, I think having the unbroken chain of conversation is always.
You know, because I feel like so oftentimes we. We reference things we're talking about in the. In the breaks and while.
[00:14:10] Speaker D: Right.
[00:14:11] Speaker B: You know, 99 of the time, it's stuff that we could still talk about.
[00:14:16] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:14:16] Speaker C: On.
[00:14:17] Speaker B: On the thing. You know, it's. You just kind of lose a lot of that. But yeah, I think.
[00:14:23] Speaker D: Be good to try.
[00:14:24] Speaker C: I think it'd definitely be awesome.
[00:14:25] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:14:25] Speaker C: I think there's a lot of fun stuff that we could do to sort of mix stuff up. That'll be. That'll be exciting. Looking forward to next year.
[00:14:31] Speaker B: Yeah. Maybe y' all can let us know on the Instagram. Yeah.
[00:14:34] Speaker C: Any ideas?
[00:14:35] Speaker D: Oh, please. Yeah. Yeah, we need. We'd love to have more interaction, more folks chat with us or DM us. And so feel free to do that.
[00:14:45] Speaker C: And we will be having a. Next year. We will be having a chicken finger guess.
[00:14:49] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:14:49] Speaker B: Reviewing.
[00:14:50] Speaker C: Guessing.
[00:14:51] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:14:51] Speaker D: We. We sort of sketched that out, didn't we?
[00:14:53] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:14:53] Speaker B: We also flirted with the idea of, like, the outside.
[00:14:57] Speaker C: That would be cool. Yeah. We got to do that.
[00:14:59] Speaker D: I agree. Maybe our first episode next season in
[00:15:03] Speaker C: front of the stadium.
[00:15:05] Speaker D: Ooh.
At Rama Jamas.
[00:15:08] Speaker C: O. Now we're talking. We gotta have food.
[00:15:11] Speaker D: That's a good spot.
[00:15:11] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah, I agree.
I think we.
[00:15:14] Speaker D: We might. We might be able to arrange that.
[00:15:16] Speaker C: Let me. Yeah.
[00:15:17] Speaker B: Be hard at all.
[00:15:18] Speaker C: I'm sure we could.
[00:15:19] Speaker D: We got some time.
[00:15:20] Speaker C: Well, guys, this has been a great segment one, and we'll be back here with segment two in a minute. This is the Bambin Balance.
Wvuafm Tuscaloosa.
[00:15:43] Speaker A: This show is not a substitute for professional counseling. And no relationship is created between the show hosts or guests and any listeners. [00:16:25] Speaker D: Welcome back, everybody, to the Bama Balance. It's been. It's been a tremendous year and an amazing season with you guys.
Is. Was there any one episode or any couple episodes that sort of struck you as. As your favorite or sort of has stuck with you?
You know, I think the longing one for me was one that I like.
[00:16:52] Speaker C: Yeah, that was a really good one. Yeah, I enjoyed that one. Faith and Spirituality was great.
[00:16:57] Speaker B: Really, really good.
[00:16:58] Speaker C: We definitely need to absolutely revisit that.
[00:17:01] Speaker D: Yes.
Yeah.
[00:17:05] Speaker C: I liked Questions from the Hat.
[00:17:07] Speaker D: Huh? Huh?
[00:17:10] Speaker C: Yeah, I really liked all of our guest episodes.
[00:17:13] Speaker B: We had a lot of good guests. And I was actually. I was about to say. I meant to say earlier, you know, I feel like we.
1. A testament to UA community. Like, in moments when some of us couldn't be here, we were able to have a lot of, you know, sometimes in the. The 11th hour, some guest hosts come on.
[00:17:31] Speaker D: That's right.
[00:17:32] Speaker B: And, you know, mainly, I guess, Henry Glover and Michael Dobbs.
[00:17:35] Speaker D: But
[00:17:38] Speaker B: that episode of Michael, though, you and I did.
[00:17:40] Speaker C: Dude, that was so fun.
[00:17:41] Speaker B: I think. I just think that, like, that was
[00:17:43] Speaker C: a. Yeah, we told him.
[00:17:44] Speaker D: No.
[00:17:46] Speaker C: No clue. What?
[00:17:48] Speaker B: Just sitting there. We're just staring at him.
[00:17:49] Speaker C: That was hilarious.
[00:17:50] Speaker D: I listened to that the other week, and I was just laughing out loud because I enjoyed it.
[00:17:54] Speaker C: There were several times that we almost, like, had to just totally cut.
[00:18:01] Speaker B: One time we did the beginning of one time.
[00:18:04] Speaker C: We did have to go back.
[00:18:05] Speaker B: Like, we. Like, he said something. I can't remember what. Probably for the best at the very beginning. And, like, I just. I just started laughing. Brooks Turtle. And he's like, all right, we gotta cut it.
There are multiple times where, you know.
[00:18:18] Speaker C: Yeah, we about had to just say, like.
[00:18:20] Speaker B: Like, I. It's probably good that this is not videoed, because I'd look over and Brooks would be hunched over trying to avoid the mic, and I'd be doing the same thing ten seconds later. And.
[00:18:30] Speaker C: Yeah, dude. And I couldn't look at y', all, because when I looked at y', all, y' all made me. I was like, golly, dude, I. That was about to start crying, laughing.
[00:18:38] Speaker B: That was a.
[00:18:40] Speaker C: That was. That was a fun. That was fun.
[00:18:42] Speaker D: I love that episode. That was so good. Henry was really good when we had Hannah on.
[00:18:47] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:18:48] Speaker D: And he just was real spot on with some of those questions and, you know. So thank you to Henry and. And Michael for stepping in there. I wonder, you know, that might be. So I was thinking for next year, kind of a fun thing to do, sort of drag in a student co host.
[00:19:05] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:19:06] Speaker D: And it would be kind of do it that way. That'd be great.
I love that kind of stuff.
[00:19:10] Speaker C: That would be fun.
I think also we should do like a shout out Bennett Katz. But yes, we need to do a Nick Saban episode. Just talking. Everybody brings your favorite Nick Saban speech.
And we play it and then we talk about it. Roll Tide, baby. Here we go.
[00:19:32] Speaker D: I think that's a great idea.
[00:19:34] Speaker C: I think that'd be a lot of fun because he does have some great. I mean, he has some great speeches.
[00:19:39] Speaker D: Where's Bennett going? Is he law school? He was law school.
[00:19:42] Speaker C: He was in between. Okay. But he did take the lsat.
[00:19:45] Speaker D: Okay. Okay. So he's taking it.
[00:19:47] Speaker C: I think he's still deciding on what exactly he wants to do.
[00:19:51] Speaker D: You know who else I was thinking might be a lot of fun or would be a lot of fun. I know it would be a lot of fun. Be Calvin.
[00:19:56] Speaker C: He'll be here next year.
[00:19:57] Speaker D: Really?
[00:19:58] Speaker C: I was wondering about that. He'll be with us.
[00:19:59] Speaker D: Ah. Do you know Calvin?
[00:20:01] Speaker B: Calvin Hughes?
[00:20:02] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:20:02] Speaker B: I met him years ago and I was in high school. No kid at atl.
[00:20:09] Speaker D: Oh, really? Yeah.
[00:20:11] Speaker C: Interesting.
[00:20:11] Speaker D: But Calvin's from. Where is he from? Fairhope. Yeah. Okay.
[00:20:14] Speaker C: He was way more involved than I was. Rush was.
[00:20:16] Speaker B: Well that year. And part of that was my sister was up here at the time and I was going to visit her and she was like, go to this. It'll be fun. I was like, okay.
[00:20:26] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:20:27] Speaker B: It was not. Not really knowing what to expect. And then she said, text this dude. And that dude was Calvin Hughes.
[00:20:32] Speaker D: No kidding.
[00:20:33] Speaker C: Oh, that's awesome.
[00:20:34] Speaker D: That's a good dude.
[00:20:35] Speaker C: Crazy enough, he went turkey hunting this morning and he had an early night last night, so he. He wasn't like any of us. But he said he got out there like 6:30, heard a turkey gobble, and then he said it just didn't go his way.
Every time he'd take his mask off, mosquitoes were tearing them up. Dude. He came back and he was like, I'm. I'm never doing that.
It was hilarious.
I got a good laugh out of that.
[00:21:04] Speaker D: Oh, my gosh. Well, he spent. Was it a summer?
[00:21:08] Speaker C: Jackson Hole.
[00:21:09] Speaker D: Jackson Hole.
[00:21:09] Speaker C: Oh, last Summer.
[00:21:10] Speaker D: Do some wrangling or something like that.
[00:21:12] Speaker C: He's riding horses every day.
[00:21:13] Speaker D: Riding horses.
[00:21:13] Speaker C: That's so cool. He's given, like, guided tours.
Yeah, he has some funny stories.
[00:21:20] Speaker D: I'd love to hear some of those stories. You know, John Richardson's out there. It was in Colorado. Is that where John is?
[00:21:25] Speaker B: He's out in Colorado or he's still there right now.
[00:21:27] Speaker D: They're doing that.
[00:21:28] Speaker B: I'm doing ranching.
[00:21:29] Speaker C: Where do you know?
[00:21:31] Speaker B: I. You know, I've been told somewhere.
[00:21:34] Speaker D: I remember somewhere that has no wifi.
[00:21:36] Speaker C: Probably a hole in the wall.
[00:21:38] Speaker D: Yeah. Probably be great to get both of them and kind of talk about. Talk about a time on the horse or something. Yeah, that'd be fun.
[00:21:46] Speaker B: Very, very dynamic group of.
[00:21:48] Speaker D: Yeah, wouldn't it?
It'd be crazy.
I'd love that. That'd be a lot of fun. That'd be a lot of fun.
You know, I think, too, of, like, some of the.
It would be great to have a, like, freshman on here, like, who are still in that first year and still experiencing it.
[00:22:07] Speaker B: Or even like a sophomore or sophomore.
[00:22:09] Speaker D: Yeah, that'd be fun. Yeah, that'd be fun.
[00:22:12] Speaker C: Maybe a sophomore. Freshman would be fun, too.
[00:22:14] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:22:15] Speaker C: Be tough to pick one of those out, though.
[00:22:18] Speaker D: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:22:19] Speaker B: So they're still trying to figure out their way.
[00:22:21] Speaker C: We barely even know them.
[00:22:23] Speaker D: I know. Yeah.
[00:22:24] Speaker C: I don't know.
[00:22:25] Speaker D: Maybe fyc, but they feel. I mean, that's a different.
[00:22:27] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:22:28] Speaker D: Select group of freshmen. So, I mean, really the two. Because the two of you are in your own transitions. And so, Edward, this is your last year as a junior, and you.
[00:22:37] Speaker B: Well, I mean.
[00:22:38] Speaker D: I mean.
[00:22:39] Speaker B: Yeah, my only years. Junior.
[00:22:40] Speaker D: Yeah. Well, I mean, you're right. That's right. Sorry.
Yes. But then moving. But then I hope it's senior next year.
That's right.
[00:22:49] Speaker C: Again, from what I understand.
[00:22:51] Speaker D: From what I understand, you'll be wrapping up junior year.
[00:22:53] Speaker B: Yes, wrapping up junior year. And then, you know, she, like, it is weird to think about because. Well, one. I mean, because when we first talked about this, I was still a sophomore.
[00:23:05] Speaker D: Yeah.
Your last sophomore year.
I was kidding.
[00:23:09] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:23:10] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:23:12] Speaker B: But we talked about that when I was still a sophomore, and it just.
[00:23:18] Speaker C: It's.
[00:23:18] Speaker B: It's crazy how quick time goes. Like everyone told, you know, it's what everyone says, and you never want to believe it, but it's like, well, damn, I'm about to be a senior and this is weird. And I don't know, you know, it's like, why.
[00:23:29] Speaker C: But you think those three years have been Fast.
[00:23:33] Speaker B: Oh, man, I can't even buckle up. Begin to imagine quickly. This next one's better.
[00:23:38] Speaker D: So have I known you since a freshman? Yeah, freshman year.
[00:23:40] Speaker B: My gosh.
[00:23:41] Speaker D: It has been. Yeah, you're right, man.
And junior year for you, junior year for me. Gosh, nuts.
Nuts.
[00:23:50] Speaker C: How did we even meet the first time? Oh, y' all sent us an email. Yeah, we met somebody.
[00:23:55] Speaker D: It was.
[00:23:56] Speaker B: It was.
[00:23:56] Speaker C: Who recommended us to do that?
[00:23:59] Speaker D: I don't.
[00:23:59] Speaker C: Was it Bennett Call or Worth?
[00:24:01] Speaker D: It may have been.
[00:24:02] Speaker C: I think you reached out to Worth.
[00:24:04] Speaker D: I may have.
[00:24:05] Speaker C: And Worth reach out to.
[00:24:06] Speaker D: I may have, yeah. Because we're trying to find facilitators to pilot the grid program.
[00:24:12] Speaker C: Yeah, that was awesome.
[00:24:14] Speaker D: Grid program. We met. We did like a zoom chat or something. Is the first time I think I met you.
[00:24:22] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:24:22] Speaker D: You and Calvin, as a matter of fact.
[00:24:23] Speaker C: Me and Calvin, yeah.
[00:24:25] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:24:25] Speaker C: That was a lot of fun.
[00:24:26] Speaker D: But we got some good folks that we can bring on and trying to think. There's just a ton of folks we can bring on.
It'd be fun.
Who. Who would be like at the top of the list to try to get on as a guest next year?
[00:24:45] Speaker B: Any football player or athlete, frankly. Yeah, Just cause.
[00:24:50] Speaker D: Just cause.
[00:24:50] Speaker B: Just cause. I mean, I love the fanboy, but realistically, I don't know.
[00:24:57] Speaker C: Patrick Murphy.
[00:24:58] Speaker D: Murphy would be good.
[00:24:59] Speaker C: I would love that. He'd be awesome.
[00:25:01] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:25:01] Speaker C: Nate Oates would be cool.
[00:25:03] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:25:04] Speaker C: Kaylin Deborah would be cool. It'd also be cool to maybe.
There's got to be somebody in the athletic department that does stuff mental health wise. Right.
[00:25:17] Speaker D: So, yes, there is be cool is. Or at least in that health and well being area.
[00:25:22] Speaker C: Right.
[00:25:23] Speaker D: Yeah, we can contact. It would be neat to get a broader swath of like, campus guests to have a dialogue or just chat with us to get a broader. A broader sense of, you know, issues of mental health and different pockets on campus. Such a big campus, too.
But you know what? My guess is that.
That there are a lot of. That there are a number of issues that are very common. Right, right. It's just, you know, different settings or different contexts and stuff like that.
[00:25:55] Speaker B: I agree.
[00:25:55] Speaker D: Yeah, no, it's been good.
A lot more to. To look forward to and a lot more to, I think, talk about as we wrap up this. This last episode this season. But stick with us. This is the Baba Balance. And we'll be right back.
[00:26:30] Speaker C: Wvuafm Tuscaloosa.
[00:26:32] Speaker A: This show is not a substitute for professional counseling. And no relationship is created between the show host or guests and any listener if you feel you are in need of professional mental health and are a UA student, you. We encourage you to contact the UA Counseling center at 348-3863. If it is an emergency situation, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
[00:27:13] Speaker B: What's up, y'?
[00:27:14] Speaker D: All?
[00:27:14] Speaker B: Welcome back to the Bama Balance. We are.
Man, this is putting a bow on everything.
It is season, the episode, the year, semester.
[00:27:27] Speaker D: Kind of waxing sentimental in a way.
[00:27:30] Speaker C: Who, me?
[00:27:30] Speaker D: Yeah, kind of.
[00:27:33] Speaker C: Just weird.
[00:27:34] Speaker D: Just weird.
[00:27:35] Speaker C: The whole thing in general is just weird.
It doesn't feel real.
[00:27:39] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:27:39] Speaker C: I wish I could do it all again, if you want me to be honest.
[00:27:42] Speaker D: Really?
[00:27:43] Speaker C: I would so run four years back.
[00:27:45] Speaker D: Really?
[00:27:46] Speaker C: But, like, me coming out of high school.
[00:27:49] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:27:49] Speaker C: Like, me knowing what I do now.
[00:27:52] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:27:53] Speaker C: I'd probably. I don't know. If I. If I were to come back here, I'd probably do something crazy, like, just not what I'd normally do, so.
[00:28:00] Speaker D: Knowing what, you know, Take a different approach. Yeah.
[00:28:03] Speaker C: I don't really know.
[00:28:04] Speaker D: I'd have to think on it.
[00:28:06] Speaker C: But I seriously would. I'd try to, like. I don't know, maybe join some.
[00:28:12] Speaker B: Join the rowing team, you know?
Yeah, That's.
[00:28:15] Speaker C: Gotta be back to high school, get jacked and be on the football team.
[00:28:18] Speaker D: Well, that's true. Yeah.
[00:28:20] Speaker C: I'd do that again for four years.
[00:28:22] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:28:22] Speaker C: Yeah, no doubt. No, I seriously, I would. I would love to do it again. And I'd probably do it the same way. Honestly, as much as I.
As much as I talk about doing it a different way, I'd probably do it the same exact way. It's been a blast.
[00:28:35] Speaker B: Things happen the way they're supposed to oftentimes.
[00:28:37] Speaker C: Oh, yeah.
[00:28:37] Speaker D: What's the transition gonna be like for you, Brooks?
[00:28:40] Speaker C: I don't know.
I'll get a month off after I graduate, and then in June, I'll start my internship in Birmingham.
Then I'll do that right up until school starts next semester.
[00:28:53] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:28:53] Speaker C: So that'll be interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing, like, everything, because accounting is one of those things that you study and it actually does kind, you know, correlate to what you're doing. Whereas what I was when I was studying cells and stuff, I would have never needed to know any of that.
[00:29:08] Speaker D: Right.
[00:29:08] Speaker C: For dental. Yeah. I mean, you probably need to know a little bit, but not. Not a ton.
[00:29:15] Speaker D: Yes.
[00:29:16] Speaker C: So it'll Be interesting to be able to, you know, get the feel for what that corporate life's like and then come back here, hopefully win Anatium football and you're lifted God's ears, right?
[00:29:28] Speaker B: And Keelan Russell's.
[00:29:30] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was, I was about to say what's the, what's the buzz on quarterback status? Have you heard? I haven't heard anything.
[00:29:40] Speaker B: Apparently Mac was somewhat hurt for a
[00:29:42] Speaker C: day, but he was banged up.
[00:29:45] Speaker B: I mean, Russell did look so dang good.
[00:29:47] Speaker C: I don't know how you get banged
[00:29:49] Speaker B: up though, in spring.
[00:29:50] Speaker C: I mean, it would have had. Have been a non contact injury. Yeah, it's like a knee or hamstring, something.
Maybe an arm.
But I mean, it's not like they're getting hit. No, they don't get hit until that first game of the year.
[00:30:03] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:30:04] Speaker D: Right.
[00:30:05] Speaker B: So, man, they.
[00:30:07] Speaker C: Everyone looked. I'm confident in either one of them.
[00:30:10] Speaker B: Yeah, I am too, frankly. I mean, so they, they're kind of not built exactly the same, but they kind of have the same skill set.
[00:30:17] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:30:17] Speaker B: In terms like they both got to cannon for an arm. They're mob. They're both like so long that they're like. They're not like fast, but they're mobile because I mean one step is probably me sprinting 40 yards for being real.
They could, they could Jaws make sure that I could sprint.
[00:30:34] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:30:34] Speaker C: I think our defense is going to be really good.
[00:30:37] Speaker D: Okay. Supposedly that's all.
[00:30:39] Speaker C: I mean, you're returning the secondary, which is huge.
Defensive line we've got looks better get some big.
[00:30:46] Speaker B: Yonze is coming back.
[00:30:48] Speaker C: Dianze will be back.
Linebacker, supposedly. That transfer.
[00:30:52] Speaker B: We got really good QB Reese look good.
[00:30:55] Speaker C: We got that Superman built body from usc.
[00:31:00] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:31:01] Speaker C: He is a massive big old boy. I mean, he's scary.
[00:31:04] Speaker D: Wow.
[00:31:05] Speaker C: So I feel good about it.
[00:31:07] Speaker D: It'll be fun, be cool. I know. I can't believe we're sort of already thinking about next year. It'll be fun to think about because the next time we get together will
[00:31:17] Speaker B: be we run on the precipice.
[00:31:20] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:31:20] Speaker B: Of football season and we're not going to predict the game.
[00:31:23] Speaker C: No, no, not anymore. That was bad.
God, that was.
[00:31:28] Speaker B: I don't think I'm ever going to listen to that episode just because I don't want to hear it was.
[00:31:32] Speaker D: It was. It was. It was.
[00:31:33] Speaker C: It was.
[00:31:34] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:31:34] Speaker B: Because we were all like, oh yeah, we'll go in there and we'll beat the mess out of.
[00:31:37] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:31:38] Speaker C: There for a second I thought to myself, my senior year is going to be awful.
We may not win a game.
It did though. It turned out great.
[00:31:47] Speaker D: Yeah. It did not start out.
[00:31:48] Speaker B: It was a lot of promising year, all things considered.
[00:31:51] Speaker C: Good year.
[00:31:53] Speaker B: Between all of our injuries.
[00:31:54] Speaker C: You get beat by the team that beat everybody.
[00:31:57] Speaker B: Yeah, exactly.
[00:31:58] Speaker D: So right. Winning season.
[00:32:00] Speaker B: Gotta get back home.
[00:32:01] Speaker C: Take it.
[00:32:01] Speaker D: Yep. Yes.
[00:32:03] Speaker C: That was fun to watch.
[00:32:04] Speaker B: That was a really fun game.
[00:32:05] Speaker D: That was fun. Vanderbilt was fun to watch here. That was a lot of fun.
Tennessee was great.
[00:32:11] Speaker C: Six was insane.
[00:32:12] Speaker D: That's right.
[00:32:13] Speaker C: Iron ball was fun.
[00:32:14] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:32:15] Speaker C: Georgia at.
[00:32:16] Speaker D: My goodness.
[00:32:18] Speaker C: I'm so glad I went to that.
[00:32:20] Speaker B: That had to have been.
[00:32:21] Speaker C: I think that that may be.
That's top three moments from senior year. I think that will roll out to the right. Dumps it off.
[00:32:32] Speaker D: Yeah, it was.
[00:32:33] Speaker C: You could hear a pin drop in that place.
And we didn't get killed after it. So that was good.
[00:32:40] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:32:40] Speaker C: Nobody get in jail.
[00:32:42] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:32:43] Speaker C: It's a good time.
[00:32:44] Speaker D: That's good. It's great to have like that those senior year memories.
[00:32:47] Speaker C: Yeah. That's one that I will definitely hold on to.
[00:32:51] Speaker D: Hey, so how many of. How many of your friends are going to be sticking around for grad school here?
[00:32:54] Speaker C: There's a lot of us.
I think there's nine accounting students.
We have a few that are already in their masters that they'll be here for like half the year next year. And then we've got a bunch of engineering students.
I'm not exactly sure how. How their schooling works as far as like when they do internships and stuff, but I know that several of them will be back next year. So. Yeah, it'll be a good time. We'll have a good group.
[00:33:28] Speaker D: So that'll be awesome.
Edward, you're going to be. Are you going to be here in town for the summer?
[00:33:33] Speaker B: I mean, I'll be in Jasper.
[00:33:35] Speaker D: Oh, okay.
[00:33:36] Speaker B: Which is not too far.
[00:33:37] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:33:38] Speaker B: Only an hour and a half.
[00:33:39] Speaker D: Got it.
[00:33:40] Speaker B: But that road is pretty treacherous.
[00:33:43] Speaker C: I kind of like it.
[00:33:45] Speaker B: I love it. It's a great, like 69 is.
[00:33:48] Speaker C: Is.
[00:33:48] Speaker B: It's a beautiful drive.
[00:33:49] Speaker D: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:33:50] Speaker B: Until you're behind a logging truck and then you can only go 30 miles an hour.
But I love it. It's because it can be inconvenient.
But when. But I'm telling you, when. It's like no one. And it's like afternoon. There's no one on that road. And you're just gliding.
[00:34:07] Speaker D: It's so nice.
[00:34:08] Speaker C: Windows down.
[00:34:08] Speaker B: Windows down.
Like Q. Jason Isbel Alabama Pines.
[00:34:13] Speaker D: And you're just like so pretty.
[00:34:15] Speaker B: Love it.
[00:34:15] Speaker D: Yeah. Now I rid my motorcycle up there, 69, and then circle around and come back down 43 that way. That's a nice ride. That's a nice ride. I hope to do more of that in the summer, actually.
So. Yeah, may come down to Circle City or.
[00:34:32] Speaker B: Maybe I'll hear you, maybe. Yeah.
[00:34:34] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:34:34] Speaker B: You're going through.
[00:34:36] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:34:37] Speaker B: Thunder on a sunny day.
[00:34:38] Speaker D: That's exactly right. That's exactly right. Stop by. I'll bring an extra helmet.
Or come cruise by Birmingham or something.
Come find you. We'll go. You will go find a dive somewhere?
[00:34:50] Speaker C: Yeah, we'll go to a biker bar. That's right. I mean, if we're gonna do it, we're gonna do it right.
[00:34:55] Speaker D: That's right.
[00:34:56] Speaker C: We'll do that. Go park that thing out front.
[00:34:58] Speaker D: Heck, yeah. That's right. We'll do that.
[00:35:01] Speaker C: No, I'll find, like a leather jacket or something.
[00:35:03] Speaker D: That'd be fun to do. You ought to take. So one of the. I. I keep telling folks, one of the best things I've ever done for myself was to learn how to ride a motorcycle and take lessons. It's a great time. And you wouldn't think it'd be fun, but it was one of the best things I've. I've done.
[00:35:20] Speaker C: See, they scare me a little bit.
[00:35:21] Speaker D: Motorcycles used to scare me too.
[00:35:23] Speaker C: I mean, I don't think they really, like, necessarily.
Like, I know you can die in a car, but, like. Yeah, I don't know.
When I was a kid, I passed. Yes. I passed a motorcycle wreck, and it was pretty bad.
[00:35:35] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:35:35] Speaker C: And I think that kind of like.
[00:35:36] Speaker D: Oh, for sure.
[00:35:38] Speaker C: Cut my.
[00:35:38] Speaker D: I could see that.
[00:35:39] Speaker C: Cut my dreams.
[00:35:40] Speaker D: I could come in a biker. I mean, it is a little freaky being out there on a motorcycle when
[00:35:45] Speaker C: you're going fast and you're not going
[00:35:46] Speaker B: to hold you down.
[00:35:47] Speaker D: Correct. Yeah. There's, like, nothing around. There's like no cage around you to protect you. So it does get pretty intimidating, but at the same time, it's pretty exciting.
[00:35:58] Speaker C: Hey, I'd let you ride me, though.
[00:35:59] Speaker D: All right. There we go. That's right.
[00:36:01] Speaker C: Take me.
[00:36:02] Speaker D: We'll bring a helmet. Bring an extra. Awesome. We'll do that.
[00:36:05] Speaker C: I'd probably be able to win this. I'd probably be nervous.
[00:36:07] Speaker B: Hell, yeah.
[00:36:08] Speaker D: It's part of the excitement.
[00:36:09] Speaker C: I'd be dead silent, holding on for dear life.
[00:36:12] Speaker D: That's the exciting part of it. It'll be a lot of fun, fun, fun.
[00:36:16] Speaker B: Well, this has been a great episode, great semester, great season.
You know, obviously more to come.
We will you know, we'll take. We'll just take a quick summer break.
[00:36:28] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:36:28] Speaker B: And we'll be back in August.
[00:36:30] Speaker C: We'll be back.
[00:36:31] Speaker D: But that's been a great.
[00:36:32] Speaker B: Thank you so much for listening.
This has been a great experience and I'm very thankful for it. But yeah, you've been listening to the Bama Balance. My name is Edward Fountain.
[00:36:40] Speaker C: I'm Brooks Barbrey.
[00:36:41] Speaker D: And I'm Dr. Tony Perez.
[00:36:43] Speaker B: And we will see y' all soon.
