[00:01:10] Speaker C: Hello, everyone. Welcome back to the Bama Balance podcast. Real stories about college students mental health today. You know, we're kind of getting to that mindset of, you know, inching ever closer to spring break and what that means and kind of the mental.
I don't want to say like relief, but the kind of just the mental. Yeah, I mean, I guess in a lot of ways relief that spring break can. Can provide. So I'll. I'll just open it up with, what do y' all got planned for spring break?
[00:01:44] Speaker A: I'm going skiing. I'm going to the cold.
As excited as I was today to wake up, I just had this Thursday feeling. You know, I feel like Thursday starts the weekends here for me at least. I don't have class on Fridays. Yeah, everything's a little bit livelier. I threw on some flip flops. I was ready to roll.
So it's always good when you can break out the flip flops.
[00:02:05] Speaker D: So watch out, world.
Yeah, watch out.
[00:02:09] Speaker C: For real?
[00:02:09] Speaker D: Yeah. I mean, I was still thinking about it maybe taking a bike ride down to South Carolina or I still want to do this ride down the Natchez Trace. I told you about that.
[00:02:21] Speaker A: I don't even know where that is.
[00:02:22] Speaker D: So Natchez Trace down Mississippi, sort of like sort of an equivalent to Blue Ridge Parkway. I don't know if you've been through there.
I think it traces an old, like some old travel pioneer route. I could be wrong. But anyway, riding down the Natchez Trace, two Natchez, a couple days there, ride down to New Orleans a couple days there and then ride back up.
[00:02:50] Speaker A: Good food, good Music.
[00:02:51] Speaker D: That's right. Yeah. Speaking of music, what about that playlist? Brooksie?
[00:02:56] Speaker A: I know I'm pretty fired up. I know the post was good today. I loved it. So if you are listening, we put out a post today. You can DM us, email us if you have any suggestions on what to put on the playlist. But I think music, I mean we've talked about it several times. I, I see these things that pop up all the time on my Instagram and it's like pick, pick two, leave the other three.
[00:03:21] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:03:22] Speaker A: And it's like money, right?
[00:03:24] Speaker D: Love. Yeah.
[00:03:26] Speaker A: And it goes on and on and on and then it's like music. And I'm music in love.
You know, it's like family and music. Yeah, yeah. The essential, like those are two things that. Because if you didn't have music, like what would you do in the car? I know, I know. Like, well, you've probably.
[00:03:43] Speaker D: There's a couple things you could do in a car.
[00:03:45] Speaker A: But like I'm not sure if I could make a three hour road trip with my music.
[00:03:49] Speaker C: I know for sure that I, I would go crazy without something. Yeah, that's like, like that I could listen to. I would just go insane.
[00:03:57] Speaker D: It kind of sets the mood for a lot of things, doesn't it? Oh yeah, yeah, we've got some. Great.
So since posting later earlier today we had some great responses from Henry, Henry Glover. So thanks Henry, for, for your addition as well as. Yeah. As well as Cameron. So Cameron, thank you so much for your suggestions as well.
I think I saw a message from JM too, so I need to take a look at that and see what, what he's suggesting and a couple other folks I think who are trying to figure out how to access this.
Access. Yeah, the playlist. Not to mention any names, but yeah, but you know who you are. Hopefully you've been able to access it.
[00:04:37] Speaker A: Yeah, surely.
[00:04:38] Speaker D: I think so.
[00:04:39] Speaker C: I think I would hope so.
[00:04:40] Speaker D: But I'm excited to see, I'm excited to listen to it now more than ever. I think we've got. We already had some pretty good songs there and it's great to see some new additions but it'll be a great, It'll be a great way to spend the time on the bike and on the road.
[00:04:53] Speaker A: Oh yeah, that'd be awesome. You could make a road trip.
[00:04:56] Speaker D: That's right.
[00:04:57] Speaker A: That could be your road trip playlist.
[00:04:58] Speaker D: Good.
[00:04:59] Speaker C: How does it, like, how do you, how does it listen to music, I guess on a bike?
[00:05:02] Speaker A: Loud.
[00:05:03] Speaker D: Loud, right. Listen to it aloud or what I've done recently, so I just upgraded some of my technology. I have a. I have a new set of LED headlamps so it's brighter.
But also updated my helmet technology. So I've got speakers and.
[00:05:23] Speaker A: So that's pretty. Yeah.
[00:05:24] Speaker D: And riding my speaker right in my helmet. And I took it for a road trip or road test maybe. It was last weekend. I headed down south a couple hours past. You know where Pennington is? Pennington, Alabama. Butler.
[00:05:39] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, Butler.
[00:05:41] Speaker D: So I was riding down that way. Found myself down that way out near Lavaca. Lavaca. I don't know if that's how you pronounce it. Anyway, I found a place called Ezel's Fish Camp. I don't know if you guys have ever heard of that.
[00:05:56] Speaker A: We've got a. Ezels in Phoenix City.
[00:05:58] Speaker D: Stop it.
[00:05:58] Speaker A: Really great little catfish house.
[00:06:01] Speaker D: Yeah, Absolutely solid. It was fantastic.
[00:06:04] Speaker C: I've heard of this before.
[00:06:05] Speaker D: So it's right on.
It's off of State Route 10, maybe
[00:06:12] Speaker C: down in Screen County.
[00:06:14] Speaker D: Could be. I. I was just. I was. I'm just on the road.
[00:06:17] Speaker C: I think I ate there.
[00:06:18] Speaker D: Could be. It's right on the. The river.
[00:06:22] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:06:22] Speaker D: Tamuli. Is it the Tamalge river.
[00:06:24] Speaker A: Right there by Mississippi.
[00:06:27] Speaker D: Not too. Not too far.
[00:06:28] Speaker C: I was around there for a full break.
[00:06:30] Speaker D: Oh, is that right? Oh, for Blackburn. Blackburn stuff. Okay.
[00:06:34] Speaker C: And we ate there.
[00:06:35] Speaker D: Did you really?
[00:06:37] Speaker C: Did you think I liked it?
[00:06:38] Speaker D: I was so good.
[00:06:39] Speaker C: I like.
[00:06:39] Speaker D: So it was a place with like a lot of taxidermy on the walls. Yeah, it was so much fun.
[00:06:44] Speaker A: It's got that feel to it.
[00:06:45] Speaker D: Oh, gosh, that feel.
[00:06:46] Speaker C: Coleslaw. Just like a big old thing of coleslaw.
[00:06:49] Speaker A: That's right on the table.
[00:06:49] Speaker D: That's right. Free coleslaw. Hush puppies, Catfish.
[00:06:53] Speaker C: I love hush puppies. Are so good to me.
[00:06:55] Speaker D: It was delicious. It was delicious. It made the trip worth it.
[00:06:59] Speaker A: You should think about going down to, like, hitting.
I guess it'd be. Biloxi would be the big Mississippi town.
[00:07:06] Speaker D: Right.
[00:07:06] Speaker A: Riding it all the way out. Going to Biloxi or maybe starting New Orleans. New Orleans. Biloxi, Biloxi, Mobile. Mobile.
Orange Beach.
Getting some of that ocean.
[00:07:19] Speaker D: That's not right either. That'd be. And better to do it now before it gets too hot in the summer.
[00:07:24] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:07:25] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. If it got really hot, that'd be miserable.
[00:07:27] Speaker D: That'd be miserable. Yeah. So I'm kind of looking forward to doing something like that, I think, and.
And seeing how far the tunes take me. I'm looking forward to cranking out some tunes in my helmet.
[00:07:40] Speaker A: What are you doing for spring break, Edward?
[00:07:41] Speaker C: I'm going to Houston for the roadie.
[00:07:43] Speaker A: Yeah, that's gonna be awesome.
[00:07:45] Speaker C: And then Dallas for a little bit.
But yeah, I mean, hey, I hear a lot about Texas, but how cool it is.
We'll see.
[00:07:53] Speaker D: This is your first time going.
[00:07:55] Speaker C: I mean, I've technically been in Texas before.
I was. It was like a layover in Dallas, Fort Worth. But like, I've never really spent any time past New Orleans.
[00:08:06] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:08:06] Speaker C: So I am excited to go out. Just a little more west than I have been.
[00:08:09] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:08:10] Speaker C: But all these Texas people, you know, they like to brag on it. I mean, they love it.
[00:08:16] Speaker A: So big. Everything's bigger.
[00:08:17] Speaker D: It is bigger. Houston is such a sprawl. So you'll have to let me know that to. You'll have to let us know how you like.
[00:08:23] Speaker C: I'm sure I'll have some stories.
[00:08:24] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah.
[00:08:26] Speaker C: I'm going with Micah.
[00:08:27] Speaker A: Oh.
[00:08:28] Speaker C: So there will be stories and Dom,
[00:08:30] Speaker D: there'll definitely be stories and they're.
[00:08:32] Speaker C: They're nothing.
They have no shortage of spontaneity.
[00:08:37] Speaker D: Yeah.
So what a trip that will be. It'll be memorable.
That'll be very excited. Are you gonna spend any time in Austin at all? Because Austin's a fun place.
[00:08:48] Speaker C: I don't think so.
[00:08:49] Speaker A: I don't think Austin's weird.
[00:08:50] Speaker D: It is weird.
[00:08:51] Speaker C: Weird.
[00:08:51] Speaker D: Keeping it weird. Yeah, that's right. Keeping it weird. It's a great place and I, you know, wherever you. You'll go, you'll have some great Texas barbecue.
[00:08:59] Speaker A: Austin's got that like, river running through it.
[00:09:03] Speaker D: That's right. That's right.
[00:09:04] Speaker A: That's pretty cool.
[00:09:05] Speaker D: Yeah, it's so cool. And the bats, I think at sundown.
So bat migration back to their.
Or not migration. But yeah, I guess they leave for the night. Go do what bats do at night.
[00:09:21] Speaker C: Whatever. Yeah, whatever that might be.
[00:09:22] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:09:23] Speaker C: I have fun also here. We're going to the world's largest honky tonk, which I'm pretty excited for in Texas. Self proclaimed, of course.
[00:09:29] Speaker A: Now that could be fun.
[00:09:30] Speaker C: But that is, that is a place I'm excited for.
[00:09:32] Speaker D: Is that Houston?
[00:09:33] Speaker C: I think it's. That's in Fort Worth.
[00:09:35] Speaker A: Oh, no.
[00:09:35] Speaker D: Okay.
That's gonna be fun.
[00:09:38] Speaker C: But yeah, that's. That's one thing I can get behind that anywhere. Good old honky tonk.
[00:09:43] Speaker D: Do you have, do you have special boots?
No. Okay.
[00:09:47] Speaker C: No, I just enjoy the music.
[00:09:49] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:09:49] Speaker C: The beer, frankly.
[00:09:50] Speaker D: Yeah. Yeah, it'll be fun.
[00:09:52] Speaker C: Gosh, I can't Wait.
[00:09:54] Speaker D: You know, spring break is just one of those times where you just have to leave books behind or work behind, leave school behind and unwind for a bit.
[00:10:06] Speaker A: That's why you have it.
[00:10:07] Speaker D: Yeah, that's right. That's right.
[00:10:09] Speaker A: Take advantage of it.
[00:10:10] Speaker D: Yep, exactly.
[00:10:11] Speaker C: I never have to think about anything academically while I'm on that break.
[00:10:15] Speaker D: Great.
[00:10:15] Speaker C: That's the. That's the hope that's good for them.
[00:10:18] Speaker D: It's good for the mind, and, gosh, maybe we can kind of talk more about what we. What we do for ourselves, to let ourselves go and let ourselves unwind during a period like spring break.
Be fun.
[00:10:32] Speaker C: For sure. For sure. Well, that'll do it for our intro segment.
We'll take a quick break and be right back.
This is the Bama Balance.

[00:11:41] Speaker A: What's up, guys? Welcome to segment one on the Bama Balance.
Yeah, I'm excited for spring break.
Some people, you know, really want it to come now, but I'm all for giving us another week. You know, knocking. Knocking a little bit more school out of the way on the back.
[00:11:58] Speaker C: Like, make the back half a little shorter.
[00:12:00] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. It'll feel like it's gonna. I know it will. It's gonna fly by when we get back.
[00:12:05] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:12:05] Speaker C: Oh, yeah.
[00:12:06] Speaker A: It always does. There's always a lot going on in the spring. That's fun.
[00:12:09] Speaker C: And because in honors week, like, the next week or is it like a week in between them?
[00:12:15] Speaker A: I think a week in between, Then next week's honor week.
[00:12:17] Speaker D: Next week is dead week or study week, right?
I think that's right.
[00:12:23] Speaker A: So maybe two weeks for honors week.
[00:12:25] Speaker C: Maybe. Maybe even still honors.
[00:12:27] Speaker A: We could be on the week of those.
[00:12:29] Speaker D: Week of the 30th is. Is. Is honors week. It's that last. So March ends on 30th, and then there's like. And then April 1st is maybe on a Wednesday, something.
[00:12:40] Speaker A: We'd have a week in between, then dead week, then finals.
[00:12:43] Speaker D: Because.
[00:12:43] Speaker A: Dead week. Because finals start on the.
[00:12:45] Speaker D: I think you're Right.
[00:12:46] Speaker A: Because we graduated on the 1st of May.
[00:12:48] Speaker D: I think you're right. That's right.
[00:12:49] Speaker A: So.
[00:12:50] Speaker D: Right.
[00:12:51] Speaker A: Yeah. No, I'm pretty excited for spring break. It's always good to take a mental, you know, relax, get your mind off of things. Because, I mean, truth be told, you are running pretty hard. Yeah.
Especially in the time right before spring break. That's normally when you have a bunch of tests and midterms and that sort of thing. So it's always good to decompress and take it easy, kick your feet back a little bit.
[00:13:13] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:13:13] Speaker C: I mean, I feel like you don't realize how, like, tag, like, taxing the semester is on you mentally half the time. Like, you're just. Like you said, you're kind of always at a hundred, and you don't really realize, like, dang. I haven't really just sat still in, like, a month, so I'm. I think that's the biggest thing for me is just like. Like, recalibration.
[00:13:36] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:13:37] Speaker C: Every time.
[00:13:38] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:13:38] Speaker C: Because I can. I can just take that week and then even, you know, no matter what I'm doing, I still feel somewhat like, rested, or at least rested in a different way when I come back to try to, you know, finish the semester strong.
[00:13:51] Speaker A: What is spring break like for you as a faculty member?
[00:13:54] Speaker D: So you know what? I do. I. So I'll take the week off. So the university's closed, so everybody's on break.
[00:14:00] Speaker A: Oh, that's awesome.
[00:14:01] Speaker D: Yeah.
But one of the things I. I do on a long break like that particularly, is I try not to wear my watch so that I wake up when I wake up, you know, go to bed.
Go to bed. And, you know, if I'm with a group of friends, they all, you know, we just usually follow the rhythm, our own rhythm of what we're doing at break. And so there's no, like, scheduled time unless there's something specific that we're doing, like going out, the hockey talk or something like that.
[00:14:34] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:14:34] Speaker A: Other than that, I can get behind that, you know. That's awesome.
[00:14:37] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:14:37] Speaker A: I feel like we're kind of the same way, in a way. Like, not necessarily. Like, I'll probably still have my watch on, but, like, you kind of lose track of, like, you know, like, you can stay up late and I have to worry about to hit that 8:00am yeah, that's right. You can hang out with people as long as you want.
Sleep in.
[00:14:53] Speaker C: I was about to sleep in.
[00:14:54] Speaker A: Oh, good rest.
[00:14:55] Speaker D: That feels so good, doesn't it?
I. I was there. It was a few Years ago, and I went to Lake Martin on spring break. Took off my watch, and, you know, there was no time at all. It's like, woke up when I woke up.
Ate meals when I ate meals. But just was great spending time on the lake or just exploring around Lake Martin's. Beautiful, beautiful area. So beautiful area.
[00:15:25] Speaker A: Water's still really cold during that time in March.
[00:15:27] Speaker D: Yeah. March or. Yeah, March is still cold.
[00:15:29] Speaker A: It'll trick some people.
[00:15:30] Speaker D: That's right. That's right.
[00:15:31] Speaker A: When I was a kid, I didn't care, though. That's where we always go. Our family house.
[00:15:36] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:15:36] Speaker A: Either there, the beach. But, like, you know, as a kid, you don't. Cold water is not really necessarily a big worry.
[00:15:43] Speaker D: That's right. No, just.
[00:15:44] Speaker A: But now I'm watching my little cousins, like, swim and stuff. I'm like, y' all are crazy. There's no way I get in that water.
[00:15:52] Speaker D: What are you guys thinking? It's so cold. So, you know, you've been Lake Martin as well. Like Martin. So do you. So buddy of mine turned me on to. Is it Oscars?
[00:16:03] Speaker C: It's.
[00:16:04] Speaker D: I mean, like, there are a lot of different restaurants on Lake Martin, but I guess it would be on the.
The Alex City side of.
[00:16:12] Speaker A: So still water side.
[00:16:13] Speaker D: I guess that's Oscars. Yeah. I think I've heard of a really great sort of good seafood place, but they have these one, like, hush puppies, but they're, like, stuffed with pomona cheese or cheese or something.
[00:16:27] Speaker A: Yeah, it's. That's awesome.
[00:16:28] Speaker D: Fantastic.
[00:16:28] Speaker A: We never really venture to that side of the lake much. We're on the polar opposite side.
[00:16:33] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:16:34] Speaker A: We've got old collage over there by us. We hit that a good bit. So where's your.
[00:16:39] Speaker D: Where's your favorite spring break place to vacation?
[00:16:45] Speaker A: That's tough.
I guess the three years I've been here, I've done totally different things.
[00:16:51] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:16:53] Speaker D: Because you're skiing this time, right?
[00:16:55] Speaker A: Yeah. For four years I've been here, I've done four polar opposite things. First year, we went down in Destin.
[00:17:00] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:17:01] Speaker A: Which we had a great time. I. I mean, you can't beat the beach.
[00:17:04] Speaker C: No.
[00:17:04] Speaker A: And we were all freshmen, so you could just imagine it was a lot of fun.
[00:17:08] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:17:09] Speaker A: Sophomore year, I went to Puna Cana. Oh, that was fun.
[00:17:13] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:17:14] Speaker A: That was a lot of fun.
[00:17:15] Speaker D: Okay. Rick's has got a big old, like, grin on his face.
[00:17:20] Speaker A: That was a party. Right.
Good mental break.
[00:17:23] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:17:23] Speaker A: I'm sure that was.
Then last year, I went to Gatlinburg.
[00:17:27] Speaker D: Oh, yeah.
[00:17:29] Speaker A: Gatlinburg's probably least favorite by far.
[00:17:31] Speaker D: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:17:32] Speaker C: It's not a spring break place. I think it really wasn't.
[00:17:35] Speaker A: We played golf, and it was a lot of fun. The horse was sweet that we played.
Really cool views and stuff, but I'd just rather be either doing something, like I'm doing skiing, like, either going to the snow or going to the beach. Nothing in between. Gatlinburg was too much like here, kind of.
[00:17:55] Speaker C: So no grass during spring break.
[00:17:57] Speaker A: No grass. No grass.
[00:17:58] Speaker D: Either sand or snow or flip flops or Big Jack.
How about for you, Edward?
[00:18:07] Speaker C: Like, past spring breaks?
[00:18:09] Speaker D: Yeah.
Favorite place.
[00:18:12] Speaker C: I mean, freshman year, I went to the beach.
You remember Brady? Yes, Brady.
His family has a house down near Laguna, so we went there with some friends. And then last year, actually, to Mexico. Last year.
[00:18:28] Speaker D: Really? We're in Mexico.
[00:18:30] Speaker C: Guadalajara. It was a missed trip.
[00:18:32] Speaker D: What?
[00:18:33] Speaker C: So not. Not your typical Mexican spring break.
I still loved it, though. I.
[00:18:38] Speaker D: Did you say it was a mission trip. Okay, okay. Okay.
[00:18:41] Speaker C: So, you know, I would tell people, like, oh, I'm going to Mexico for spring break. And they'd be like, oh, not Cabo.
[00:18:46] Speaker D: But.
[00:18:48] Speaker C: But it was so. It was a great time, though. I mean, just walking around, like, a lot of. A lot of really cool buildings. And I was just. I mean, you know, I told you, like, I listened to mariachi music, so, like, just. It was that kind of music everywhere. And I was like, this is awesome. This is great.
Um, so I'm. You know, I'm also.
I've been to different places.
[00:19:10] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:19:11] Speaker C: But, like, spring break when I was a kid just, like, didn't happen, like, in high school. Yeah.
[00:19:16] Speaker D: Yeah. It didn't happen for us either. In high school.
[00:19:17] Speaker C: Yeah. I was homeschooled.
[00:19:18] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:19:18] Speaker C: So, like.
[00:19:19] Speaker D: Oh, right, right, right, right.
[00:19:20] Speaker C: I just.
[00:19:21] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:19:22] Speaker C: Every week was. It was like, do whatever you want.
[00:19:24] Speaker A: We would go to the beach.
[00:19:25] Speaker C: Like, we would just. We live. I mean, from Dothan is like an
[00:19:28] Speaker D: hour and a half.
[00:19:28] Speaker C: We would just go down, take day trips to the beach anytime we wanted.
[00:19:31] Speaker D: That's true.
[00:19:31] Speaker C: So, like, spring break for me was. Is kind of not novel, but, like,
[00:19:36] Speaker D: it was such a big deal.
[00:19:38] Speaker C: It wasn't as big of a deal.
[00:19:39] Speaker D: Yeah. Yeah. We didn't have a spring break thing in high. In high school. I'm trying to think.
Not that I recall Nothing like. Well, maybe you. Maybe we did go to the beach,
[00:19:49] Speaker A: but nothing elaborate as Mexico or during, like, elementary school.
We had one, but I'd stay, like, close around. Like, we'd probably go up to Atlanta for Like, two days and go to the aquarium in a Braves game.
[00:20:01] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:20:02] Speaker A: Which was awesome. Yeah.
[00:20:03] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:20:04] Speaker A: High school. Absolutely no spring break. We were playing baseball, Practicing.
Or was it the worst was when you had practice? Yeah. Like, we get back from now, we would go cool places.
We played in Jacksonville, Florida, two years, my junior and senior year.
And it was a lot of fun because you'd go down on, like, a Friday, come back on, like, a Tuesday, but then we'd have, like, practice on Thursday. I'm like, all right.
[00:20:32] Speaker D: That was with coach.
Coach Kia.
Yeah. He pushed us. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:20:37] Speaker A: Thank God.
[00:20:37] Speaker C: Would these be, like, tournaments y' all would go on?
[00:20:39] Speaker A: It was like.
I wouldn't really consider them tournaments, but, like, we'd go down there, and we'd play all the teams from Jacksonville. Okay.
So it's kind of like a.
I guess, basically a tournament. But they weren't on spring break. We were down there. They were getting out of class and stuff. Yeah, it was fun.
[00:20:58] Speaker D: That's neat. You know, one of the most memorable spring breaks for me, sometimes, if I go with some friends, we'll either alternate between, you know, like, the beach or mountains or sometimes, like, a city.
And one of the memorable ones was in New Orleans, of all places.
And it was a. I think it was the first time that I went to Preservation Hall. You ever been to Preservation hall in New Orleans?
I mean, historic place. Listening to historic Preservation hall jazz band, Historic and classic New Orleans jazz and blues.
[00:21:35] Speaker A: That's pretty cool.
[00:21:36] Speaker D: It was. It's fantastic. The. The actual.
The venue is maybe about three times as large as my office, which is not large at all. And so it's like this very intimate space, but it. The. The band is great.
[00:21:51] Speaker A: That's pretty cool.
[00:21:52] Speaker D: Yeah, it was very cool. It's very cool. So, you know, I think that.
I think wherever we go, we kind of create those memories of what's fun in a particular place and important to take advantage of it to help us unwind and relax and.
And create memories where. Where we go.
[00:22:11] Speaker A: I feel like college especially, is all about creating memories. But when you get to the college spring breaks, like, some of my best times in college have definitely been on spring breaks.
[00:22:21] Speaker C: Just something about it.
[00:22:22] Speaker A: I don't even know how to describe it. And I.
[00:22:23] Speaker D: Partly quality.
[00:22:25] Speaker A: I think it is because you don't have anything to worry about. You know, you can do whatever you want. No repercussions. Well, like. I mean, like, academically, you can stay up as late as you want. Yeah. Y. Academic repercussions. There are none. So Please don't take that the wrong way, but no, because you don't. I mean, you're.
[00:22:45] Speaker C: You've heard it here first. Brooks Barbie says no repercussions on.
[00:22:48] Speaker A: Yeah, don't get me in trouble for this. I'll have be having to pay bales of the listeners.
There probably are repercussions. I hope nobody finds those. But no academic.
You're not. You're not.
So, yeah, yeah.
This has been a lot of fun already and I'm excited for us to get into segment two or continue talking about spring break and the effect that it can have on your mental health and what it can do for you. So we'll be back in a minute. This is Bam Balance, Wvuafm, Tuscaloosa.
[00:23:35] Speaker B: This show is not a substitute for professional counseling and no relationship is created between the show hosts or guests and any listener. If it is an emergency situation, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
[00:24:16] Speaker D: Welcome back, everybody. This is the Bama Balance, and we've been having a great time talking about spring break in some of our sort of spring break memories and some favorite things. And as we were taking the break, I was also thinking too about there are places or things that we've never done on spring break and was kind of curious as to what your maybe ideal spring break activity would be that you've never done before. And.
And an ideal spring break location that you've never been to before because there's so many things to do, right. That you could do just to help you relax and just take both a mental and a physical break and unwind and a lot of different places to visit to do that in.
And I know for me some, you know, I don't know if I'm a beach person or mountains kind of person. I tend to be more of a beach person.
But also there are tons of beaches around the world and tons of other locations that I'd love to go visit. So just throwing it out there. Kind of an ideal spring break location, place that you've never been to.
[00:25:32] Speaker C: Mediterranean.
The Mediterranean.
[00:25:35] Speaker D: Just the whole area.
[00:25:36] Speaker C: Just like maybe like the Aegean, like Greece with all those islands, you know? Yeah, that'd be so sick to me.
[00:25:42] Speaker A: That's what Ellie, Kate and Then went on a cruise over there.
[00:25:45] Speaker C: That's what I was about to say. Like a cruise in the Mediterranean, hit
[00:25:48] Speaker A: Mykonos and all those different parts. It looked really cool.
[00:25:52] Speaker D: That.
[00:25:53] Speaker C: That would be. That'd be my ideal 100%.
[00:25:55] Speaker D: So around that. Around the Mediterranean area. Greece in particular, or.
[00:26:00] Speaker C: Yeah, Greece and I guess like the islands, like, surrounding the.
[00:26:06] Speaker D: Cyprus.
[00:26:07] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:26:07] Speaker C: Cyprus may maybe part of Turkey. I don't know if I'd really want to go to Turkey.
[00:26:12] Speaker A: I went to Turkey.
[00:26:13] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:26:13] Speaker D: Okay. But these right now, probably right now
[00:26:17] Speaker A: I wouldn't be going.
[00:26:18] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:26:18] Speaker A: Anywhere over there.
[00:26:19] Speaker D: Right, True.
[00:26:20] Speaker C: I mean, there's probably a lot of places. Yeah.
Yeah.
[00:26:23] Speaker D: But Greece will be okay, I think.
[00:26:25] Speaker C: But yeah, somewhere. And maybe even like parts of Italy, too.
Like the. Like eastern Italy.
The Adriatic. Cause that's the ocean between kind of the Balkan Peninsula.
[00:26:37] Speaker D: Really.
[00:26:38] Speaker C: So. Yeah, just around there. That'd be so sick to me.
[00:26:41] Speaker D: Is there anything about Greece that, like, what is it about a Greece that. That draws you in or is there a certain allure to.
[00:26:49] Speaker C: I just think it's like such a cool spot because the geography is just very.
I mean, it's like islands and kind of small, but also mountainous. A lot of history there too.
And just, I don't know, something about it. Yeah, something like intrinsic.
[00:27:07] Speaker A: Huh.
[00:27:08] Speaker D: It's a beautiful area.
[00:27:09] Speaker C: That's what. That's what I hear.
[00:27:10] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:27:12] Speaker C: So that would be my ideal.
[00:27:13] Speaker D: Yeah. Yeah. I'd love that area.
What do you think of Proxy?
[00:27:17] Speaker A: I've got two.
And really, I'm not sure if it's spring break.
Like trips you couldn't do it with, like, timing wise, I don't think.
[00:27:27] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:27:28] Speaker A: I've always wanted to go to Hawaii.
Oh, good choice. But like, not. Not because, like, I think it. I mean, I think it'd be awesome, but, like, I just want to go experience it at least once.
Next one. Japan.
100% nice.
Spend like 3 days skiing out there and then the rest of the time just like literally eating, walking around. I think that'd be all. I've always wanted to go to Japan.
[00:27:57] Speaker D: Ah, sounds like a great trip. That sounds like a great. I think it'd be cool, I think, if, you know, when I think of, you know, places I haven't been that I'd like to spread. Spend for a spring break. There's a place again, out in Mediterranean off the coast of Italy.
The island of Malta.
[00:28:16] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:28:17] Speaker D: And I think the reason I'm drawn to that place or one of the reasons I'm drawn to the place is, is it Was, I think, a location site for Game of Thrones filming.
[00:28:29] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:28:29] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:28:30] Speaker D: So it has some of those, Some of that architecture and history and just a great place to visit.
It's right there in the Mediterranean off the coast of Italy. And just a. Like, it's an old, it's an old country and area that I just, I love stuff like that. Sort of the history of the area and kind of learning more about it.
Another place I think I keep thinking about is, gosh, it is off. It's all, it's. I think I want to say it's in the North Sea, so it's a total different climate. Yeah, right.
But it's off the coast and I'm blocking on the name of it though too. But it's, it's. It's a fishing town. Fishing place, fishing country.
But, you know, surrounded by just beautiful geography and, and the ocean. It's. It's great catch.
[00:29:28] Speaker A: A big house.
[00:29:29] Speaker D: Big halibut. That's right.
[00:29:31] Speaker A: I would love to go like marlin fishing or something.
Like something very extreme.
Yeah, like spending, spending a few nights.
[00:29:39] Speaker D: Yeah.
Out.
[00:29:42] Speaker A: Something like that.
[00:29:43] Speaker D: Dang.
[00:29:44] Speaker A: I don't want to do that.
[00:29:45] Speaker D: Wow. Have you ever been?
[00:29:46] Speaker A: I've been 40, 60.
[00:29:48] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:29:48] Speaker A: But like, huh. That's a way out there. Deep ocean, 120 miles, big boat.
[00:29:53] Speaker D: Oh, yeah. Yeah.
[00:29:55] Speaker A: That'd be awesome.
[00:29:56] Speaker D: A friend of mine.
[00:29:57] Speaker A: Blue water.
[00:29:58] Speaker D: Yeah, for sure. A friend of mine did some, he worked on. I guess it was a salmon boat off of Alaska one spring break. He'd love. He loved it. But they were out there and he's working.
[00:30:09] Speaker C: That would scare me.
[00:30:10] Speaker D: Yeah, he was working.
[00:30:11] Speaker C: I hate the ocean, like the open ocean.
[00:30:15] Speaker D: So I, I, you know, I.
As much as I love as I
[00:30:19] Speaker C: want to go on a cruise,
[00:30:21] Speaker D: I love deep sea fishing. I also get seasick, so. But I've never been on a cruise before either.
[00:30:25] Speaker A: I'm no cruise.
[00:30:26] Speaker D: Really.
[00:30:27] Speaker A: Absolutely.
[00:30:27] Speaker C: Really?
[00:30:28] Speaker D: I've never. What, so if so you wouldn't recommend it?
[00:30:32] Speaker A: I've never been.
[00:30:33] Speaker D: Oh, you've never been.
[00:30:33] Speaker A: I will never go though.
[00:30:35] Speaker C: What's about a cruise?
[00:30:36] Speaker A: I just can't get over the fact of, like, one, if I'm gonna go one of those places, like, I'd rather just go be boots on the ground.
Two, there's so many people on a cruise. Like, that would freak me out a little bit.
[00:30:50] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:30:51] Speaker A: Like, the boat does not worry me at all. Like, I'm not worried about getting stranded, flipping over. None of that. Yeah. Just the mass amount of people.
[00:31:01] Speaker D: It's like a small City and like different people.
[00:31:03] Speaker A: Like, you know, if it was like if I was on a cruise, all my friends and like people we legitimately knew. Yeah, that'd be great. I would do it.
[00:31:14] Speaker D: Huh.
[00:31:14] Speaker A: But I just. I don't think I could.
Never had any interest in it and.
[00:31:19] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:31:20] Speaker A: Just not. I don't think I'd be a huge fan of cruises.
[00:31:23] Speaker D: But if you went with like a group of folks like 10 or 12.
[00:31:27] Speaker A: I could.
[00:31:28] Speaker D: I mean, or it's still. You'd still need more than that.
[00:31:30] Speaker A: I wouldn't love it, but like the idea of it. But I'd probably end up having a good time.
[00:31:34] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:31:35] Speaker A: It just take me getting like you've got to get me past. Like somebody has to present me with a great idea to go.
It's got to be going somewhere cool. Like I don't want to cruise the Bahamas.
[00:31:45] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:31:45] Speaker A: If I'm going to the Bahamas, I want to go to the Bahamas.
[00:31:47] Speaker D: Right.
[00:31:48] Speaker A: On a plane.
[00:31:48] Speaker D: Right. Cruise to Hawaii.
[00:31:52] Speaker A: That'd be cool.
[00:31:52] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:31:53] Speaker A: I mean it'd be better than that plane ride.
[00:31:55] Speaker D: Probably should be a little slower though.
[00:31:57] Speaker A: Too slower. But you've still got pools and sun stuff.
[00:32:02] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:32:02] Speaker A: Fresh air.
[00:32:03] Speaker D: That's true. Since that feels different. I guess it just places.
Yeah.
[00:32:08] Speaker A: I wouldn't mind one.
But Ellie, Kate and them, like they flew into Greece.
[00:32:13] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:32:15] Speaker A: And then they took off out of Greece. Because I think if you were to leave from here, like that'd be a super long.
[00:32:20] Speaker C: Oh yeah. That's like.
[00:32:21] Speaker A: That's a two week.
[00:32:22] Speaker C: Two.
[00:32:22] Speaker A: Well, they were there for nine days, so it was a seven day trip.
[00:32:26] Speaker D: So she flew into Greece from there.
[00:32:28] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:32:28] Speaker C: Okay. Dang.
[00:32:29] Speaker D: And then. And then cruised out of Greek. Or is that how it works?
[00:32:32] Speaker A: Cruise department port in Greece took off, hit Turkey, all the Greece Island.
[00:32:39] Speaker D: I see. And did the cruise that way.
[00:32:40] Speaker A: Did the cruise that way. They came back to Greece.
[00:32:43] Speaker D: Yes.
Oh, that's a. That's a good compromise.
[00:32:47] Speaker A: Yeah. Actually I'd want to be close. Like I couldn't take off out of a boat and go to Asia from the US no long. I feel like there's too much room for error in there.
[00:32:57] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:32:59] Speaker D: Like how do you. I mean, what do you mean?
[00:33:02] Speaker A: Like that'd be the point where gas like come on.
[00:33:07] Speaker C: Lot of ocean between us.
[00:33:08] Speaker A: And that's a long massive go. 120 on a boat. But I. I want to know. I want to know the captain.
[00:33:17] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:33:18] Speaker A: Feel good about things.
[00:33:20] Speaker D: Okay. Still trying to figure that one out. Too much room for error, I guess.
I mean we.
I Mean, the worst. What would be the worst thing that would happen, though?
[00:33:30] Speaker A: I don't know.
Seriously, I wouldn't be worried about, like.
[00:33:35] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:33:35] Speaker A: Getting stranded or anything, but.
[00:33:37] Speaker D: Yeah, pirates.
[00:33:39] Speaker A: Pirates. That'd be scary.
Yeah, that'd be terrifying.
[00:33:42] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:33:43] Speaker A: I'm not sure what I'd do in that situation knowing that I have nothing to protect myself.
[00:33:48] Speaker D: I mean, there's some concern depending on where you sail, too.
[00:33:52] Speaker A: Right.
[00:33:53] Speaker D: But assuming that you are just, you
[00:33:56] Speaker A: know, I don't know, that just seems like a long time.
[00:33:58] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:33:58] Speaker A: With that many people on a boat that far.
[00:34:00] Speaker D: I get it. Yeah. I. You know, for me, we start to feel claustrophobic, like, too many people, and I just need. I just need to step out.
[00:34:07] Speaker A: And I would love, like, a cruise with, like, 30 good friends.
That would be some people they know well.
[00:34:16] Speaker D: So let me tell you this. You may change your mind then. Have you ever been on, like, a. A wedding reception cruise or a. Like a reception on a reception cruise where they rent out, like, a small party? But I guess a party boat is what it is.
[00:34:35] Speaker A: That'd be awesome.
[00:34:36] Speaker D: Well, so it sounds like it would be, but then you're stuck out there for whatever it is, three hours, and you can't get off.
[00:34:46] Speaker A: I'm so okay with that because I'll know the people. You know what?
[00:34:50] Speaker D: I know. Yeah, you'll know the people. That's true.
[00:34:53] Speaker A: It'd be a.
[00:34:54] Speaker D: Awesome. It would be fun. It.
Yeah.
[00:34:56] Speaker A: Have you done that?
[00:34:57] Speaker D: I've done that in my sort of younger days.
[00:35:00] Speaker A: Where was that? Where was the wedding?
[00:35:02] Speaker D: Up in Boston.
[00:35:03] Speaker A: That is awesome.
[00:35:04] Speaker D: That's fun.
[00:35:04] Speaker A: I've never heard of that.
[00:35:05] Speaker D: That's fun. Here. Yeah. Okay. I wonder.
[00:35:07] Speaker A: I guess it's a little different.
[00:35:08] Speaker D: I just have to have water to do it. But you could do it, I guess.
[00:35:11] Speaker A: Go get married in Alice beach or something.
[00:35:13] Speaker D: Yeah, something like that.
[00:35:14] Speaker A: That is.
[00:35:15] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:35:15] Speaker A: Awesome.
[00:35:15] Speaker D: Yeah. Or like, Martin, you rent, like a big old pontoon. There's pontoon boats maybe or something. I don't know which.
[00:35:21] Speaker A: I need multiple.
[00:35:22] Speaker D: Multiple.
[00:35:22] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:35:24] Speaker D: But it's fun. But then after a while, I don't know, after. I mean, the first time was great, but then, you know, after like a. A third time doing that and another reception, you go, okay, let's. Let's go. Let's move it along.
[00:35:36] Speaker A: When we went to Mexico, we did one of the, like, little party barges or whatever.
[00:35:41] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:35:42] Speaker A: Yeah, we got there.
[00:35:43] Speaker D: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:35:44] Speaker A: And it is like we're in this rowboat, basically, with a guy standing at the front with a big old long Oar.
And I didn't know what to expect. And we all sit down, like, it's like a big table.
[00:35:58] Speaker D: Oh, wow.
[00:35:58] Speaker A: This boat is. There's probably like 20 of us on it, and they're giving us all sorts of, like, different food and stuff, and they're taking us from place to place on this boat and tying up. And at each place, it's a different type of band. So they had, like, a country band, they had, like, a rock band. They had, like, a mariachi band.
And this dude is literally pat. I mean, like, keeping us in the middle of this river or whatever it was with the.
[00:36:28] Speaker D: Or sounds fun.
[00:36:29] Speaker A: And everybody else is just drinking, eat, having a good.
[00:36:32] Speaker D: See, that's different, because then you've got some.
Some variety and stuff like that.
[00:36:37] Speaker A: Yeah, no, I love stuff like that. Party Barge would be. But I'm not 100 set on cruises.
[00:36:42] Speaker D: Yeah, I get it.
I get it. I. I'd love to. I'd love to do something by train. I've never traveled by train. Like, doing a spring break, long trip by train.
You know, maybe from here to Chicago or from here to, I don't know, the Grand Canyon. Yeah, you know, that would be fun.
[00:37:03] Speaker A: You know, going out there would be cool.
[00:37:04] Speaker D: Yeah. Yeah, that would be a trip. Do a. Do a Yosemite. A train ride. Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
[00:37:11] Speaker C: Go west.
[00:37:12] Speaker D: Yep. Visit the.
Visit, you know, some of the national parks.
Dr. Vanderwaal, who we had early in the season, I. I can't. I think he's done most, if not all, the national parks with his family.
[00:37:26] Speaker A: That's awesome.
[00:37:27] Speaker D: Yeah, it's very cool. It's very cool.
[00:37:30] Speaker A: The redwood forest, isn't that like a park or something? Yeah.
[00:37:35] Speaker D: California.
[00:37:36] Speaker A: Oregon, maybe.
[00:37:37] Speaker C: It's California.
[00:37:38] Speaker D: California.
[00:37:39] Speaker A: That'd be awesome.
[00:37:40] Speaker D: Yeah, that'd be.
[00:37:40] Speaker A: Those things are massive.
[00:37:42] Speaker D: Yeah, they are. They are huge. There's a place outside of San Francisco.
I want to say San Francisco, maybe towards Oakland. That's Muir Woods. I don't know if you all have ever heard it, but it's a grove of redwoods and just giant trees. It's beautiful. It's beautiful place and. And food. San Francisco is pretty good, too, so
[00:38:08] Speaker A: I bet the food in Boston's good.
[00:38:09] Speaker D: Boston.
[00:38:10] Speaker A: Boston would be a cool place.
[00:38:11] Speaker D: Yeah. Yeah.
Isn't it, though? It's a lot of fun. Where did you. Where did you visit? Or what did you.
[00:38:18] Speaker C: My family.
This is like 2016, so I was perhaps pretty young, but we took a trip. Oh, that was 10 years ago.
Let's just hit me we took a trip up the east coast to visit, like, some cities, like, kind of the major cities of the East Coast.
[00:38:32] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:38:34] Speaker C: Because we just. We were there. Like, we're just gonna do this. All right, Follow me. And the farthest that we went was Boston.
[00:38:40] Speaker D: Right.
[00:38:41] Speaker C: I loved it.
[00:38:42] Speaker D: I thought it was so cool.
[00:38:43] Speaker C: I was only there for, like, two days, but, yeah, it was great.
[00:38:45] Speaker D: Such a. It's such a fun city. And. And, you know, as. As old a city as it is, it's also a very young city because there are so many colleges and universities in the year. We need to take a road trip to Boston or lobster rolls.
[00:38:58] Speaker A: Good.
[00:38:59] Speaker D: Lobster rolls are, like, the best thing you ever put in your mouth, man.
You can do it either hot or cold. It's delicious.
[00:39:08] Speaker A: I'm all about it.
[00:39:09] Speaker D: It is delicious. Oh, my gosh.
[00:39:11] Speaker C: Put.
[00:39:11] Speaker A: Just give us two of those little side seaters on a motorcycle. We'll just take.
[00:39:14] Speaker D: Okay. Yeah, we can do that.
[00:39:16] Speaker A: We'll just take.
[00:39:17] Speaker D: You know, you can rent motorcycles.
You can rent your motorcycle.
[00:39:21] Speaker A: That'd be awesome.
[00:39:22] Speaker D: Yeah. And we'll ride up.
[00:39:23] Speaker A: I'd have to get a license.
[00:39:25] Speaker D: You probably have a lice. Yeah. Get a license and figure out how to actually drive. Take a lesson. Yeah, take a lesson. You can take. You can get a lesson. Gosh. Take a lesson.
[00:39:32] Speaker C: True.
[00:39:33] Speaker D: On the weekend. Something like that. Yeah. That's how I. It's how I learned. Did like, a driver's ed course for motorcycles over a weekend with a buddy of mine.
[00:39:40] Speaker C: That's awesome.
[00:39:41] Speaker D: Best thing we ever did.
[00:39:42] Speaker A: Getting a boating license was kind of a joke, so if it's anything like that.
[00:39:45] Speaker D: Really? Okay. I mean.
[00:39:47] Speaker A: Yeah. All you have to do is take a test online. Yeah. And half the stuff people don't even remember, they just remember it for the test. That's why they show me bad drivers on lakes and.
[00:39:57] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:39:57] Speaker A: Ocean stuff. People just don't pay attention.
[00:39:59] Speaker D: Yeah. But it's fun.
[00:40:00] Speaker A: They're wondering why they're bottoming out.
Read the warning sign right there.
[00:40:05] Speaker D: Gosh, man. But, I mean, there's nothing like a good road trip for spring break, regardless of where you're going.
[00:40:11] Speaker A: I agree.
[00:40:12] Speaker D: You know, so it's been. It's actually been fun to kind of think about places we've never been and where we'd like to go. And it's got me thinking about maybe changing some plans for my spring break this year. It's been a lot of fun.
But stay with us as we wrap up this segment and we start to close out this episode. Stay with Us. This is the BAMA Balance.
[00:40:49] Speaker A: Wvuafm Tuscaloosa.

[00:41:33] Speaker C: Hey, y'.
[00:41:34] Speaker D: All.
[00:41:34] Speaker C: Welcome back to our.
The AUS the Outro segment. Segment. Yeah, it's been a good one. It's been a fun one today.
Kind of shades of. Of off the rails a little bit, but with the.
We have a theme. We had. We have a spring break theme, though. So not, not technically off the rails, but it's been. It's been a good one. I've enjoyed it. I think to. To equate this to just so we can make sure we check our mental health box.
I. I think sometimes you just. People, you just need to like conversations that are just, you know, refreshing.
[00:42:05] Speaker D: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:42:06] Speaker C: Even in a context like this, like, it's good for just to hear this, to kind of jive a little bit.
[00:42:14] Speaker D: It's. It's. It's so much fun. And I think, you know what's even funnier are the conversations we have between the breaks. You know, you know, we take a break and then we're still carrying on and then we jump back on and start to record. And I can't help it but think how much of a break this is for me, even during the week, to do something.
[00:42:33] Speaker A: Tony, that's what I look forward to. I mean, we've been in here an hour and 15 minutes currently, and we've probably done 30 minutes of actual recording. So if that goes to tell y'
[00:42:46] Speaker D: all anything, it's quality. It's quality recording, though. Yeah, quality recording.
[00:42:52] Speaker A: But off the recording, we are definitely still talking about some random stuff.
[00:42:56] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah.
[00:42:57] Speaker A: So, no, I think spring break is very important. It gives people a little bit of a break and that goes a long ways, mental health wise.
And just in general, everything you do, you know, you need a break at some point.
[00:43:10] Speaker D: Absolutely.
[00:43:11] Speaker A: And sometimes the weekends, like you said, when you're running as full as you are in the spring semester, sometimes a weekend isn't enough. No, no. Especially last weekend, I looked back on it and I was like, golly, it's already Sunday. Like.
[00:43:25] Speaker D: Right.
[00:43:26] Speaker A: But it'll be good to, you know, have that Sunday night going to bed, and you don't have anything to worry about. Yeah, I know.
[00:43:33] Speaker D: Yeah, I know. And, you know, I think that. That it's an important way to not just unwind, but. But also regroup and reset for the rest of the rest of the semester. And so, you know, when we get back, it'll be, what, close to honors week, and then a couple weeks after that, it'll be study week that week and then finals and.
And the academic year will wrap up in no time. And for you, Brooksie, you're going to be graduating in no time soon.
[00:44:03] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:44:04] Speaker D: That's the only thing for you, I
[00:44:05] Speaker A: have a feeling, after, like, we've got our big formal tonight, so that's, like, one thing to look forward to.
[00:44:11] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:44:12] Speaker A: For us. But after spring break, like, we've got a lot to.
We've got so much coming up that I don't think we'll be able to comprehend how quick it goes by.
[00:44:20] Speaker D: Right.
[00:44:20] Speaker A: We've kind of wished it away until now, and now we're like, all right, tame it back a little bit.
So do you think it's going to
[00:44:28] Speaker D: feel different for you this year? I mean, being that you'll be graduating and all? Do you think that spring break will be different for you this year since you graduated?
[00:44:37] Speaker A: I think we'll be fortunate enough next year. We'll probably do a little bit of something.
[00:44:41] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:44:42] Speaker A: Since I'll be in grad school. But, like, I mean, this really is our last, like, week off of, like, you don't get weeks off of work.
[00:44:49] Speaker D: That's right.
[00:44:49] Speaker A: Unless you work at the university or something like that. But we're all be.
[00:44:53] Speaker D: Working.
[00:44:53] Speaker A: Working absolutely no weeks off. So it'll be great to be able to go on one last, you know, big trip and try to have a good time.
We'll definitely soak it in, so.
[00:45:05] Speaker D: And for you, Edward, it's. It's sort of the next to the last spring break, but also anticipating some big news about house coming. Potential. Potential new house for the fraternity.
[00:45:17] Speaker C: That's the hope.
[00:45:18] Speaker D: Yeah, that's the hope.
[00:45:19] Speaker C: You know, we'll find out soon.
Maybe in the next day or 2.
But 1. 1. I mean, I've probably been more disconnected from the process than I should be, but no, I think it's something that we're ready for and capable of. Of maintaining. Well, I'm excited just to have a. We were talking about a little bit over the break with Brooklyn home base just Right. Having Somewhere to go in the. The dead space or that rather the dead time when you're on campus that's like a very communal. I think is just. Is going to be huge for every guy.
But it's also a sign that's like, yeah, we're growing. I'm really. Like I said earlier, freshman year was us in John's living room. And then now it's no, we're close getting out. So fun little journey there.
[00:46:12] Speaker D: Yeah. Time moves fast.
It moves so fast. And spring break can be again as much. As much as spring break can be a time to slow down, it's also kind of the realization that, you know, this is another spring break that's gone by or my last spring break as an undergraduate.
And I think it's also important to, you know, to be kind of soak in those moments as much as you can.
[00:46:38] Speaker A: No doubt.
[00:46:39] Speaker D: You know, kind of soak in the moments that you. That you're with friends and you're enjoying stuff that you're doing and.
And trying to remember it all. I remember my last spring break in college. I was trying to just remember it all.
I can't remember the. For the life of me now, all of what we did. I know where we were at the beach, but up at the Cape, I'm sure we ate lobster rolls or something like that. I'm sure we did something like that. Right.
Heading out of the beach on the Cape and.
But that was. But it was. It's fun, but it's fun and kind of having those memories to go back to, you know, when you come back and you hit finals or study week. And having those memories are. It's just nice to rely on and it gives you something to lean on that's sort of fun to think back on and.
And remember with a lot of fondness and stuff like that.
[00:47:35] Speaker A: Yeah, no doubt.
[00:47:36] Speaker D: Yeah. But.
But I hope you guys have a great spring break. I know that it'll be March Madness as well too.
[00:47:44] Speaker C: Coming up.
[00:47:45] Speaker D: Right.
[00:47:45] Speaker A: Heat of it. Let's do it.
[00:47:47] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:47:48] Speaker C: My favorite sports view.
[00:47:49] Speaker D: I know. Experience. I think.
I don't know what. Where the brackets. I don't know kind of where what the brackets look like for the SEC tournament.
[00:47:59] Speaker A: I'm not gonna lie. I like the loss.
[00:48:03] Speaker D: Oh, against. Against Georgia. Yeah. I think it was a good wake up call, don't you think?
[00:48:07] Speaker C: Yeah. I mean, you win that many in
[00:48:08] Speaker A: a row, we would have pulled out that close game. Mm.
We're looking at Saturday coming off two big ones.
[00:48:14] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:48:15] Speaker A: Probably shouldn't have won.
[00:48:15] Speaker D: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:48:17] Speaker A: Now I'm playing.
Gonna be competitive.
[00:48:19] Speaker D: Auburn. Yeah.
[00:48:21] Speaker A: I love the loss.
[00:48:22] Speaker D: Yeah. I'm with you. I was. I mean, I was. I was sad we lost, but I wasn't devastated.
[00:48:29] Speaker A: Definitely wasn't.
[00:48:30] Speaker D: Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
[00:48:31] Speaker A: But the more I think about it,
[00:48:33] Speaker D: I think it was a good wake up call.
[00:48:35] Speaker A: Probably a little better for us.
[00:48:36] Speaker D: Yeah. Better wake up call.
[00:48:38] Speaker C: Help us get some fire before Auburn and the rest of the tournament, which we got a double buy too. So, like.
[00:48:43] Speaker D: That's right.
[00:48:44] Speaker C: You know.
[00:48:45] Speaker D: Yeah. You think that'll help or hurt us?
[00:48:47] Speaker A: Help the way we get injured?
[00:48:50] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:48:51] Speaker D: True.
[00:48:52] Speaker A: And we've been on a tough stretch back before we divorced. Pretty. Pretty brutal.
[00:48:56] Speaker D: Yeah. So, yeah, we could benefit from that rust.
[00:48:59] Speaker A: No doubt.
[00:48:59] Speaker D: So pulling things out against Auburn this coming weekend.
[00:49:03] Speaker A: Do good in the tournament.
[00:49:04] Speaker D: Entering the tournament.
Right.
[00:49:06] Speaker A: Then go hit it hard.
[00:49:08] Speaker D: Maybe Florida. Maybe we need Florida. I don't know what that draw looks
[00:49:11] Speaker C: like, but we would not play them till the championship. Yeah.
[00:49:17] Speaker A: One or the two.
[00:49:18] Speaker C: Or the two. Yeah. We wouldn't play them until the championship then.
[00:49:21] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:49:22] Speaker A: If we win Saturday.
[00:49:23] Speaker D: That's true. That's what. Yeah, that's. I guess that's what I was kind of projecting.
[00:49:26] Speaker A: Played Tennessee in the semis as of right now.
[00:49:30] Speaker D: Right. So we wouldn't. Yeah, that's right. We would meet up again.
Again. And potentially meet up for it in the championship. That's going to be good. That'll be a good one.
[00:49:41] Speaker A: No doubt.
[00:49:41] Speaker D: That'll be good.
[00:49:42] Speaker A: Hopefully we make it there.
[00:49:43] Speaker D: Yeah.
And then, gosh, then on to the madness.
Can't wait.
[00:49:50] Speaker A: That's gonna be fun.
[00:49:51] Speaker D: Cannot wait. I'm psyched. I'm psyched. I don't know where we'll be. I know potentially where I'll be wherever there's a regional and were in it, you know, Chicago. I've got put in for tickets, at least for that. So sweet. So we just have to make it. If we're in the regionals and we're in that Sweet 16 and Elite 8.
[00:50:12] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:50:14] Speaker D: At least I've got arrangements to go.
[00:50:18] Speaker A: Housing. Yeah.
[00:50:19] Speaker D: Get some housing. Yeah. Looking forward to it. Looking forward to it.
[00:50:21] Speaker C: Awesome. Well, this has been a good episode.
Been a lot of fun. Just talking about, you know, getting our minds right before the break.
So I know I had a good time and hope Yalls breaks are just as amazing and restful as I'm hoping mine is. So thank y' all for listening. This has been the Bama Balance podcast. I'm Edward Fountain.
[00:50:43] Speaker A: I'm brooks Barbrey.
[00:50:44] Speaker D: I'm Dr. Tony Perez, and we will
[00:50:46] Speaker C: see y' all next week.
